Outstanding, well deserved GOTY categorization
Oblivion most certainly lives up to its reputation as a Game of the Year for 2006/2007.The interface is very easy to manipulate. The combat system is intuitive, and I found the regeneration of fatigue and magicka/mana to be quite unique to the RPG environment. I often found myself lugging around potions for regenerating mana and hitpoints in other games. This is not the case with Oblivion! My dark elf character regenerated fatique and magicka, while it was extremely easy to cast spells that restored health.The game crashed to desktop only a handful of times out of the dozen or so days I spent playing, so I'd say it was above average in terms of reliability. The game runs smoothly at 800x600 with a P4 3.0 GHz CPU and an ATI Radeon X1950 GT 256MB AGP video card.The most noteworthy aspect of this game is the sheer number of quests and the "sandbox" aspect of exploration and character development. The Future of CRPG (computer role-playing game)
What can I possibly say about this revolutionary computer RPG that hasn't been said?To me this is arguably the best computer game in the history of video game, period.'Oblivion' is a non-linear, free-form, 1st-person RPG, colored with beautiful next generation graphic that enhances the immersive gameplay set in the gigantic gameworld, where you can do anything anywhere anytime you feel like it.There are over 20 cities and settlements, 300 quests, 300 dungeons, caves, ruins, tunnels, and whatnots available in the game (combining 'Knights of the Nine', official DLCs, and 'Shivering Isles').Then there is TES Construction Set. Oblivion, Fun but Dumbed Down To Appeal to More Relative to Series
Trying to be as objective as possible so let me explain why I'm giving this a 4/5 star rating even though I liked it a lot.First, the game has a lot of 'improvements' which seem like they were put in place because they would make the game more appealing to the masses. These include things like the idea of fast travel (I wish I could do this to work every morning), the auto leveling of the enemies, and so on. I'll explain more on those subjects further on. Generally though these 'improvements' break the atmosphere of the game some and, while you can ignore the fast travel, don't seem realistic. Your character just ran into what could be the equivalent of hell for the Elder Scrolls world, he came outside and suddenly every single mercenary is wearing glass armor (really nice stuff) and using top of the line swords? It's that good. Simply put, best of genre
Simply put, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is not only the best RPG of the year, but arguably the next step of the RPG's evolution. Think of it this way: 25 years ago Wizardry I was state of the art in all parts of the RPG - graphics, game design, and character build (stolen straight from D&D). That one game changed the way others were built. Today, Oblivion not only has state of the art graphics but also state of the art game design and character build - essentially, the culmination of 25 years of electronic RPG design. The competition has a lot of work to do to catch up, and it is likely many of the features here will be borrowed for other games. This is a clear 5 stars overall, with the only two flaws being like its predecessors the game is simply massive and the controls can be a bit awkward.For those who never played it, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was a great game and major advancement in the genre. Worth the wait
Despite the long wait for the development on this title to finish, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has proved well worth the wait. I haven't had more than 10 hours in the game so far, but already I can say it is less buggy, more intuitive, and just as deep if not deeper than Morrowind.FYI, I didn't play more than 30 hours into Morrowind, because it kept locking up on my Xbox even though the game wasn't scratched and no other games skipped. Just as background - that was my only Elder Scrolls experience till now.On my PC (currently with a 6800GT and a 2.6Ghz Athlon 64 with 1 Gig of DDR400), load times between areas are short - maybe 5 to 10 seconds TOPS - and when moving through outside areas loading is non-existent. Definitely much better done than Morrowind.The graphics are stunning. The auto-detection sets everything for you, and doesn't allow you to make many changes. I'm sure there will be ways to force higher settings on lower cards later on,...

First, I'd like to be honest... No review can do this game justice, this one included. I would also like to note, I was never a fan of Morrowind. Uniquely Beautiful Departure from Acid Bath
For those of you familiar with Acid Bath, frontman of Agents of Oblivion, Dax Riggs and Agents guitarist Mike Sanchez are no strangers to you. What might be strange, however, is how different this record is from the Acid Bath days. I happen to be a fan of the angry, brutal, dark Acid Bath AND also this new direction Dax and company have taken with Agents. Dax's voice is, hands down, one of the best voices in rock. Period. He's sort of like the underground Chris Cornell. (I love Chris, but Dax smokes him.) The thing with Dax is that his singing goes beyond just a lovely melody, interesting phrasing, or his seemingly effortless ability to hold a note. He is a legitimate singer with mindboggling range. His vocals drips with mystery, depth and, I don't know how else to say it but some sort of tragic longing... Dax consistently creates the most complex and moving melodies I have EVER heard. One of the top 5 most underated albums ever
To begin, I find it odd that I ever even picked this album up besides the fact that it was an acid bath side project. I am undoubtedly a metalhead although a compramising one at that. However un-metal like this album is, I love it to death. I will forever treasure this cd for giving me not only musical inspiration in a different direction than ever before, but for great insight and the greatest of listening pleasure. It is difficult to slap a label on this work of art, but here goes: I prefer to call it psychedelic-stoner-grunge-rock. But that is no proper description for this album. This album made such an impact on me that I've been burning copies left and right to friends and co-workers like it was my job, and they all have given great responses to it. Picks up where PTT left off...
This magnificent album picks up right where Paegan Terrorism Tactics left off. Obviously it's not Acid Bath as the songs are somewhat lighter in overall mood, but it is a VERY slow moving, dark themed album. By now (2000) AB has broken up and this is (was) Dax's new band, and you can see how dax has come to embrace darker (than usual, even for him)songs. Phantom Green is a song that is a definite slow rocker with seering guitar solos and Dax's notorious bellowing. As with anything that Dax Riggs is associated with, this album is not for the light-hearted. The music is very moving even though the musical structure is watered down a bit (in comparison to AB.) If you preferred PTT's slower moody rock, then you will mosdef dig this album! Long Live Dax!

Simply one of the finest Games ever made
One of the best aspects of the mythologies of Europe is their innate heroism, the tales of the incredible hero facing unspeakable danger and still standing triumphant. Oblivion honors this source material wonderfully, while going beyond in so many ways.When the player exits the tutorial (a prison escape) and steps into the blinding sunlight, one feels as though they are literally standing on the shores of the Atlantic, surrounded by the ancient forests of medieval Europe. And the detail only increases. With every person you may converse, from every flower you may pick, with every creature you may fight. Hundreds of objects, not only swords and shields and armor, but even things as simple as a crude wooden spoon resting in a drawer in the upstairs bedroom of a house you would have no real reason to visit, is rendered beautifully (a word that only rarely can be used with video games). Quite possibly the best game i have played so far...
I would recommend this game to anyone. Definitely I would get the PC one if i had a choice between the PS3 and 360 versions (PC/Xbox360 version(s)have all the DLC; Plus the expansive modding community still active today). It is a very nice RPG, with amazing graphics for its time. Like the motto of Bethesda Game Studios" TES series,you get to "live another life in another world". Basically (Without spoiling the juicy storyline ;) )after you escape the Imperial Prison you can do about whatever you want to.You can participate in things like breaking into peoples houses to steal stuff, murder people, join guilds, sleep or have a drink at an inn, help people out in quests, go to church, become the holy crusader, enter oblivion and fight off daedra, become a vampire, contract diseases, make potions, I mean the possibilities of this game are quite literally endless.
